The Truth Will Set You Free But It Will Also Refuse To Let You Go

I spoke to a women's group a few years ago, and this phrase fell out of my mouth.

"The truth will set you free, but it will also refuse to let you go."

I knew it wasn't me.

Or that it was so much more than just me.*

I remember the shock I felt when I heard myself. I looked out into the crowd and caught the smiling eyes of my mentor, Naomi.

With the quake that ran up my spirit and settled into my soul, together with the huge smile on Naomi's face and the fire in her eyes, I knew I had fallen on the sharp end of a profound truth.

Sometimes Jesus does that.

He pushes past our thoughts and opens our soul to new insight when we least expect it.

Sometimes he drills down into the nitty gritty of our small thinking and blows it to his Kingdom Come.

Sometimes he steps in, revelation dripping from his fingertips, and releases it into the atmosphere until we are saturated with his truth and goodness.

Truth will wrestle you to the ground,

ignore your pleas for release,

and hold you there until you surrender to his joy.

He will look you in the eye and challenge every lie and perversion

until you bend to His messy, irresistible, humbling, reckless love and power.

Truth is as life-giving as it is soul-changing.

Jesus will set you free. And he will refuse to let you go.

Once you know, you can't unknow.

If you let him, he will change everything.

*Truth is a person. Truth is Jesus. John 14:6

If this isn't the Jesus you know, you might need to ask him to show you his authentic self, free from all the religious folk's interpretations they like to use to control us.

Hello! I'm glad you're here.

I hope my words saturate your life with God’s goodness.

I pray they express the new joy I’ve found in my friend, Jesus and the trustworthy companionship of the Holy spirit.

He really is better than we can hope, dream, imagine, or pray.
